Having a happy, buzzy time on 7th March, at the private view of the RWS Contemporary Watercolour Competition 2019. Even happier to have been selected for the third year running, this year with The Sound of Trees 4, and to connect with other exhibitors at one of the friendliest exhibition openings.
The Sound of Trees series was made working in the woods earlier in 2019, using very loose mark-making in reaction to sensory perception - of the soundscape as much as the landscape. Walking a fine line between observation and abstraction, it uses increasingly fluid notations of the traces of seeing and hearing, as well as planes and pattern-like marks and hearing, to build the composition. It consolidates recent developments in my work: more about psychogeographical experience of playful, improvisational reactions to a living ecology, than time in the studio.
The show continues until 20th March 2019. open daily 11 am - 6pm.
