Working in series: abstract watercolour, composition, collage and mixed media

Learn how to work 'in series' to develop a coherent and connected body of work. Artists have always worked 'in series', or by project, to enable a focussed and sustained exploration of an idea, motif or subject (e.g. trees, figures, plants, landscape, colour, architecture, interiors etc). Discover a process of researching, developing and editing your work, such that the seeds found in one work inform the next. A range of watercolour and mixed media experiments will facilitate this process. We'll be looking at examples from various artists including Richard Diebenkorn, and Ellsworth Kelly's sketchbooks and works on paper.

Treat yourself to an immersive painting retreat with lots of painting time every day, based in a luxurious and recently restored private Georgian house. Stay in one of our beautifully appointed rooms, enjoying fine cuisine by Charlie Ratcliffe (Master Chef of Great Britain) including cooked breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, wine and 3-course dinners. Dietary restrictions catered for. A few non-residential place are available for course attendees staying off-site.
