Working in series: abstract watercolour, composition, collage and mixed media

Learn how to work 'in series' to develop a coherent and connected body of work. Artists have always worked 'in series', or by project, to enable a focussed and sustained exploration of an idea, motif or subject (e.g. trees, figures, plants, landscape, colour, architecture, interiors etc). Discover a process of researching, developing and editing your work, such that the seeds found in one work inform the next. A range of watercolour and mixed media experiments will facilitate this process. We'll be looking at examples from various artists including Richard Diebenkorn, and Ellsworth Kelly's sketchbooks and works on paper.

Treat yourself to an immersive painting retreat with lots of painting time, based in a luxurious and recently restored private Georgian house. Even if staying off-site, you'll enjoy exquisite catering by Master Chef Charlie Ratcliffe at lunch and afternoon tea, and enjoy full use of the studio between 9am and 7.30pm. Dietary restrictions are catered for if specified with balance payment nearer the time. A list of nearby B&B's can be provided, if required.
