Gesture and expression: mark-making in abstract watercolour landscape

Working from the banks of the River Derwent (a 10-minute walk away),  Dales landscapes and the gardens at the house, you’ll soon be translating drawings into energetic planes of transparent watercolour. Explore the paradox of both letting rip and gaining control of watercolour with Ella’s unique insights into handling the medium, and finding your own mark-making rhythm in gestural paint work. We’ll be inspired by artists such as Ivon Hitchens, Peter Lanyon, Joan Mitchell and Alf Löhr.

Treat yourself to an immersive painting retreat with lots of painting time, based in a luxurious and recently restored private Georgian house. Even if staying off-site, you'll enjoy exquisite catering by Master Chef Charlie Ratcliffe at lunch and afternoon tea, and enjoy full use of the studio between 9am and 7.30pm. Dietary restrictions are catered for if specified with balance payment later on. A list of nearby B&B's can be provided, if required.
