Daphne/Retellings, 2019
In Greek mythology, Daphne was saved from assault but also silenced and frozen by her metamorphosis into a tree.
A tree that is still sentient but unable to communicate, according to Ovid.
Walking and running among trees, I imagined the spell of the myth being broken, trees turning back into women, and the Daphnes becoming free and able to tell their experience.

“[In Daphne/Retellings] the artist uses expressive brush stokes and thin layers of watercolour to create a visual language evoking the sensory reaction to being surrounded by nature.”
