Soundings, 2022

Artist residency project at Jelly, Reading

The first series of notations of the acoustics inside and outside the Jelly studio, within the busy Broad Street Mall shopping centre, Reading.

The muzak (Kate Bush was running up that hill), voices, shouts, laughter, the echoes and distortions, unexpected hum and unexplained crashing sounds of the building itself made a tangled soundscape to work with.

The resulting paintings are sound clouds, hanging from the top edge of paintings, suspended in the air and in time.
